OK, i hope I'm not too late, the error comes from the fonts value in gtk set up, change your system to oxygen and your fonts will follow, this is a gui issue not a python issue, i stumbled on it after error code i shut it down and said i'll deal with it later, changed my desktop and wham, jack came right up and running, still have a ton of x errors to figure out, but i was able to get hydrogen drum machine to load and come through my sound blaster live, hope it helps ...Pangaea
