It's embarrassing that I did not investigate until now. Strictly speaking,
you could say it's invalid, but somehow many people became confused, so
that's neither fair nor helpful.
In any case, the solution is simply to set the following as shown.
@bool open_with_save_on_update = True
The default used to be False, which doesn't seem helpful. Rev 1f1a110 sets
the default as shown.
There is a related setting, with the default shown as follows::
@bool open_with_goto_node_on_update = True
