From, the earlier discussion I understood that pip installation was 
better...
But I think it may change based on various factors :
 
- if user have root access and want to make leo available for all users
- if user want development or stable version :
- if user can and want to install it with pip as a python package or in a 
more "standalone" way
- if user want a desktop integration 

Based on this, there are different way to install it. maybe we could think 
about an interactive script which ask all those question to the user plus 
verify whether dependencies are installed. But that's just my newbie's 
point of view...
