My apologies for implying that it was simple. It was actually the fact that 
`python setup.py install` *almost worked* that made me think that success 
by that method was very near and so there was no obvious reason for another 
approach.

Is there a particular known problem with the traditional `python setup.py 
install` that doesn't work for Leo? It really appeared as though *unzip the 
egg* was sufficient for success on Linux.

After reading through the setuptools documentation, it is clear that I 
won't be wrapping my head around it sufficiently in the near term to make a 
contribution; so for now I can only withdraw and wish you well.
