I have now solved the problem, having found this earlier thread: https://groups.google.com/forum/#!searchin/leo-editor/settings/leo-editor/B4i6fN6naMQ/HtxtZPy2AC0J I have severely pared down myLeoSettings.leo to only contain @settings/Basic Fonts (change these first) and its sub-nodes, which has solved my problem.
