This setting affects the width of the blinking cursor. Default is 1. Setting this to 5 makes a huge difference for me. Now, my eye is drawn easily to the insert point. Yes, the extra width partially obscures the underlying character, but that doesn't matter.
I realized yesterday that I use the mouse more than I should because doing so allows me to set the insertion point more easily. Now, I can just *see* the insertion point.
