To enable, set new_find = True in << global switches >> in leoGlobals.py.
You must also set @bool minibuffer_find_mode = False, at least in your test files. Now Ctrl-F brings up a global, non-modal dialog. It should be obvious how to use it. A known glitch: when switching outline tabs, the title of Find Tab should change to reflect the presently active outline. It doesn't do that at present until you do Ctrl-F again. In any case, the actual find commands work in the expected outline :-) Please report any other problems.
