Ed,

Welcome back.

While I was walking on the beach in Naples, thinking about what will be next, the thought "be strong" came to me. There are many hurtful things going on in the world, and more to come. Being strong means doing what we can in spite of it all. I keep this in mind every day as I do what I enjoy most: working on Leo and doing programming puzzles.

Absolutely. The motto I've heard among Transition and other activists is, "act now, where you are, with what you have". Personally, I've also found it helpful to get a deeper understanding of Gaia, in particular the mujlti-billion-year time scale she works on; it helps to learn patience and persistence, and "rolling with the punches".

The other thought that has come to me is: "finish the unfinished tasks and something good will turn up." This is the antidote about worrying that someday I'll have nothing more to do. Not too likely :-) There are several important unfinished projects that I intend to finish asap: simple installation for newbies and fixing bugs related to IPython and vim plugins, among others. After that, we'll see what turns up.

I look forward to it,

With gratitude,
Don
