I'm a save some of these quotes. I don't understand 3 and 5 yet.

#5 doesn't speak strongly to me either. It may mean something stronger in
the art world. I kinda regret copying points 4 and onward.

But the first three are so evocative for engineering. I rank them in this
order.

Do search. But in order to find other than what is searched for.

Engineers and programmers explore without knowing where the exploration
will lead. It may start off in one direction, but it may end up somewhere
else.

The present discussion about multi-threaded trees, attributes, views,
clones and work flows is an excellent illustration. Iirc, it started with
Richard Andersen's thoughts about incorporating some ECCO pro features into
Leo. A digression lead to multi-threaded trees. They seemed exciting at
first, but now not so much. But that lead to a lengthy pondering of my own
work flow with clones, and how that might be improved or even subsumed into
other ways of using Leo. I'll be writing up my thoughts soon.

The pretty, initial position which falls short of completeness is not
to be valued—except as a stimulus for further moves.

No aspect of Leo is sacred, including clones. As a thought experiment, it
has been useful to explore what we would have without clones. But don't
worry, clones will never go away :-)

Attempt what is not certain. Certainty may or may not come later.
It may then be a valuable delusion.

Engineering is a dynamic, creative process. Small changes to assumptions
and techniques can have profound consequences. Programming is too complex
to understand from the get go. All we can do is to forge ahead with
confidence, modifying the code as new insights develop.

My thoughts, not Diebenkorn's :-)
