So that is what I get for testing in Chrome Alone. My larger and more complex files load just fine in Firefox. The greyed out slider bars ie. the vertical inner bar beside the outline, are never supposed to have a slider. There is the full height bar that slides, and the horizontal bar under the outline also slides to encompass long headlines and deeply embedded nodes.
