I was given a raspberry pi 3 for Christmas. It's still unopened. Anyone know a real use for it?

Thanks for the replies. My concern is that the internet of things has security holes. For example, it's possible to use computer-controlled light bulbs to hack into the system that is controlling them.

Well, Raspberry Pis run Linux (the official distro is a Debian flavor) that you install on the SD card and have full control of, so it's as secure as any other Linux machine in your home network :) Just shut down any services you're not using and make sure your router's firewall is set up properly and you're golden.
