It is not expected to do anything when user haven't search for something. When user starts search (in usual way Ctrl+F, in dialog, or in Find tab or in mini-buffer command), Leo will remember where the last search has started and what nodes were expanded and which were contracted. Command Alt+F3 or alt+x search-return-to-origin will return focus to node where last search has started and restore all nodes expanded/contracted state as it was when search has started.
To see effect of this command you should expand several nodes and choose any node, then start search for anything. After one or more search commands, press Alt+F3 and you should see the effect of command. If nothing has been found by last search, there will be no effect of this command either.
