I do use clones. My desire for this kind of functionality is driven mostly
from the fact that I always forget to update reference file. The other
equally important reason is that I use Leo for all kinds of everyday
scripting tasks, not necessarily related to the current project. I found
that run-selected-tests-externally is very useful for those tasks. No need
to write script in separate file. Just insert a node, set headline @test
do-something, and write script in body. Very often, in those scripts I need
to hard-code some password, or sensitive path and then to remember not to
publish it anywhere. While writing script to automate some task using Leo,
I can tweak it without performing any real action until I am convinced that
the actions will be exactly what I intend to do. Like some potentially
dangerous scripts offer dry run option just to show what will be executed.
Those scripts can be a one time task, but perhaps they may be needed again,
so I want to keep them around. That is why I value my copies of reference
files.

PS: I don't know about bookmarks. Perhaps it is time for me to learn about
them.
