That helped.
Rev 3bf2c2a contains cleaned up code, and converts two files to @file, for
more consistent viewing.
Evaluating repr(g) in the box yields "" (!) Not sure why g is a special
case, but apparently it is.
Evaluating c in the box yields the (repr of) the commander, as expected.
In short, almost everything works as expected now.
