If you can execute @scripts from myLeoSettings.leo I'd definitely say
startup.py is redundant / feature-itis.

I wouldn't say private plugins are a perfect alternative because
they're more complicated for a newbie looking for a simple solution,
but a @script in myLeoSettings.leo should more than cover the need.  Of
course, it pulls in security issues with it.
