I've made a new friend this week. His name is Altix, Altix the Minibuffer.
I've seen him around a lot, pretty much every day actually, hanging around
at the bottom of trees, under a body of text or sometimes a log. Quiet,
unassuming, showing his title but not announcing his name, content with a
narrow space beneath the Important Business above. His door is always open
a bit, a whispered invitation to enter his shop, borrow a tool and look
around.

I've done the first part from time to time, enter and quickly use a tool,
but the next part... Well, I've always been "too busy" to look around -- to
my loss. If only I'd know how much less *busy* I could be if I stopped long
enough to ask the shop-keep his name, ask what he has on offer, look at all
the tools on the wall, take each down and explore their range of motion,
sight down the barrel, test the sharp edge.

So, don't be me. Don't wait years, gazing at but not seeing the poster on
the wall

Go right on in and introduce yourself to Altix in person. He'll be glad to
see you, I promise.

*...who can't sleep and hopes writing this confessional will let those
whirling "if only I'd known!" and "holy sh*t! All those 'names' behind the
menu and keyboard shortcut descriptions are *commands* and all can be used
from one place!!" thoughts will be set free, free to find other minds in
different time zones to play with.. ;-)*
