My present rules of thumb when reading the news:

1. News is a report about what has *already *happened.
2. Analysis is a discussion of background information.
3. Speculation is a discussion of what *might* happen.

Imo, speculation is hardly ever worth reading ;-)

The same distinction apply to Leo:  Progress reports are news.  Engineering 
Notebook posts are analysis. Discussion about when projects might be 
complete are speculation :-)

*Summary*

I now eliminate all speculative sentences from my writing.
