Thomas Passin has worked on implementing Zettelkasten using Leo-Editor files. He may be well aware of bibliothecula, which implements Zettelkasten in an sqlite database using just sqlite3 and official extensions.
Hacker News today pointed me at Using sqlite3 as a notekeeping document graph with automatic reference indexing <https://epilys.github.io/bibliothecula/notekeeping.html>. I have barely skimmed this article and it uses much more complicated sql than I've ever used, so I can't recommend this sqlite implementation of Zettelkasten. I can only say that it looks interesting. I am not interested in Zettelkasten. This is another reason to discount this post. None the less, you might find the above link interesting.
