I'm so glad you found the do-nothing statement while I still had some memory of the issues involved. The big three checkers: pylint, ruff, and mypy failed to find the blunder. Imo, they are going backward. pylint used to have a warning "statement seems to have no effect" but that check seems not to exist any more.
