I used LDView and Leocad to display car.dat (that got installed when
installing ldraw/ldview/leocad.
The cars where not the same.

The steering wheel is missing in Leocad (a part of piece 3829).

By checking the LDView warnings I realised that pieces have been renamed.

Problematic part of model:
1 4 0 -16 -30 1 0 0 0 1 0 0 0 1 3829.dat
1 4 30 -32 -90 1 0 0 0 1 0 0 0 1 157.dat
1 46 30 -22 -104 1 0 0 0 0 -1 0 1 0 179.dat
1 4 30 -32 -30 1 0 0 0 1 0 0 0 1 141.dat
1 4 -30 -32 -30 1 0 0 0 1 0 0 0 1 140.dat
1 4 30 -32 70 0 0 1 0 1 0 -1 0 0 101.dat
1 4 0 -40 -80 1 0 0 0 1 0 0 0 1 3068.dat
1 7 30 6 -60 0 0 -1 0 1 0 1 0 0 4601.dat
1 0 30 6 -60 0 0 -1 0 1 0 1 0 0 123.dat

After manual renames (the first part is the steering wheel, not renamed) I got:
1 4 0 -16 -30 1 0 0 0 1 0 0 0 1 3829.dat
1 4 30 -32 -90 1 0 0 0 1 0 0 0 1 4070.dat
1 46 30 -22 -104 1 0 0 0 0 -1 0 1 0 4073.dat
1 4 30 -32 -30 1 0 0 0 1 0 0 0 1 3822.dat
1 4 -30 -32 -30 1 0 0 0 1 0 0 0 1 3821.dat
1 4 30 -32 70 0 0 1 0 1 0 -1 0 0 3623.dat
1 4 0 -40 -80 1 0 0 0 1 0 0 0 1 3068b.dat
1 7 30 6 -60 0 0 -1 0 1 0 1 0 0 4624.dat
1 0 30 6 -60 0 0 -1 0 1 0 1 0 0 3641.dat

How could LDView know about the renames? Can Leocad be made to
understand them as well?

(There is a Non-flat quad in 4624.
There is a load of Bad vertex sequences in 3641.)
