I don't do anything special, I just scan the folder on startup every
time. It's a bit slow if the files are not in the disk cache but after
the first run it's fast enough.

Yeah... indeed, it was the cache that made it fast on re-launch! I have two machines that should be roughly equivalent in power, one of them loads full LDraw library (official + unofficial) in about 10 seconds. A bit painful, but acceptable. The other takes almost one minute, imho unusable expecially since there is no splash screen telling that LeoCAD has been started.

Of course it's MUCH faster with a zipped library. Not perfect since other LDraw tool doesn't use that (so it means two copies of libraries, with discrepancies lurking...) but its a HUGE improvement compared to the old piece import feature.

   I should mention I only support planar maps for now, I couldn't find
an example of spherical or cylindrical.
AFAIK nothing supports other projections yet.

    Do you plan to do an announcement on LDraw forum? Or do you prefer I
    announce it there?
