This is not a simple problem, because there is no 1-to-1 correspondance between parts available in LDD and in LDraw (thus in LeoCAD).

LDD does have a LDraw export function, depending on a mapping file (ldraw.xml) to choose the right LDraw part if available, and compensate for origin and orientation differences. Since LeoCAD can import LDraw files, job can be considered done.

Note that there is a version of ldraw.xml provided with LDD, but it is not up to date, and contain few parts mapping information. For a better conversion file, go to Mike Gallagher's page: http://gallaghersart.com/page/new_ldd_parts_and_the_ldraw.xml

Is there a way to import LXF files into Leocad or is it something that
would need to be implemented?

(LXF are files from Lego Digital Designer, technically a ZIP archive
with some XML in it)

Thanks,
