Hello Leo,

I finally managed to build, install and test out the latest svn version of
leocad (0.80.4). I must say, I am stumped at how much it has changed since
last time I've checked it out.

As much as I am really REALLY liking it, i do find it still a tad harsh on
usability: it lacks essential 'quick' shortcuts that I am personally used
to with using MLCAD now for over 10 years.

I am taking the time to say this because I've been appointed with updating
the Linux getting started LDraw wiki page, and I,ve been scouring online to
find all the related information to build it and reference all the material
adequately.

I've also personally taken the time to write a new Linux native make-list
utility to enable updating the list for linux purists, rather than having
to install wine to do so.

My ultimate goal is to help in making all the editors viewers and renderers
alike Linux ready and easily available to the community, as LDraw is overly
Windows-centric, also provided that MLCAD, although having a steep learning
curve, is the editor of choice.

I have been helping Travis Cobbs and Peter Bartfai too with LDView in
getting essential export functions to work and other parts of LDView's code
debugged and fixed.

Also, recently, we used Eli Carter's patches (now updated) to provide a
fully stable Linux native port of Lpub4, which he now hosts on his trac
blog as an rpm and I, on GitHub as a deb ready install package.

In saying all this, I would be delighted to provide you with extensive
usage reports and usability enhancement requests, if you are able to follow
through with me and get them coded for me to test out (I'm unfortunately
not code savvy other than with the use of BASH).

It would greatly advantage, if not surpass MLCAD in many ways, as to offer
a premium alternative to it even for windows users:

Open standards (duh!)
Frequent updates
Better usability
More accessible functions via keyboard shortcuts.

Please let me know what you think of this as I am getting ready to compile
the list of additions that would greatly make this a much better experience
for building LDraw models with the use of your editor.

Best Regards!
