It's been _a long time_ since I answered one or these :) I spent a lot of time in xscope with the popup menus, and this is one of the things i never did track down. It has something to do with either time, or movement. If there is a long time, or movement, between the ButtonPress and ButtonRelease the menu pops back down. If the time is short, or no movement, the menu stays posted. I'm not exactly sure of the reason. The popDown will be getting called from an event handler, as a result of an XtGrabButton, I think. The event handler needs to ignore the ButtonRelease, sometimes :) I hope this helps somewhat, I know that this gets very confusing, very quickly ....
