Hi ive tryed what you recommended which worked. The
problem I have is with the Maya 3D software package,
one of the child windows opens up in a different place
each time.
Maya uses a windowsPreferneces.mel file within which
you can specify the names of child windows and where
you would like them to start and thier sizes, I can do
this for the rouge window in question and the first
time it opens it obeys the windowsPreference file,
however subsequent opens of the window ignore the
file.

I want to know if I can force the window manager to
force the application to open the child window in a
predefined place.

Thanks for any help
