I didn't expect my mail to be forwarded to one of the authors, I would
have put this a little differently otherwise. I've been spending part
of my spare time working on free software myself, so I certainly
appreciate your effort.

That might have been what I saw, I didn't have those. My problem was
with the configure scripts in Xbae and Xlt. They were looking for
install-sh/install.sh twice. The first time looks like:
for ac_dir in $srcdir $srcdir/.. $srcdir/../..; do
[....]
This one found it in one of the parent directories. The second time
looked like:
for ac_dir in . $srcdir/.; do
[....]
This failed, and configure stopped. I just removed this from the
configure scripts, and that seemed to solve it.

In the file clients/Motif-1.2/uil/lex.l, there's a statement:
return VERSION;
The symbol VERSION was undefined. I figured that it should probably
be VERSION_t, which is defined in yacc.y (--> yacc.h).
