While your email arrived, I was typing up my experience, probably
on the same topic, since I tried to bypass the problem with:
./configure --enable-build-Xbae
--with-motif-includes=/usr/local/lesstif/include/Xm
--with-motif-libraries=/usr/local/lesstif/lib
but it still keeps using the "-I../../../include/Motif-1.2" stuff.
I also tried to use openmotif 2.1.3 as the "--with-motif-incs/libs",
which failed as well, of course.
It would be nice if Xbae can be build against either of them (M*tif or
Lesstif).

Rob.
