current is simply a tarball of a working tree. The nightly also processes the
man pages into html before the tarball is made. This is probably the major
reason for the size difference.

current should really be made with "make dist" the same as the releases are.
But since both will need to be re-thought for SF....

The documentation has been changing alot. I think you would have to compare the
unzip'ed versions before you could make any analysis.
