Ok, some additional comment from a non Xbae-expert -
I tried on i86-linux-lesstif/Xbae from CVS and could reproduce the
problem.

 - the canonical order of linking _always_ has to be maintained

 - I think the beep is due to a problem/bug within Input.c:match()
   Meanwhile I've applied a patch to CVS, which needs to be tested

 - should this check of the input really be done if the widget
   loses focus? This is documented, but I don't really see
   the advantage currently ...

 - if the beep doesn't happen with real Motif one should 
   check this. Sounds like one bug cancels another one ;-)
