I haven't got a clue. What is Mac OSX??
An operating system for Macintoshes.
------- Begin Forwarded Message ------- I am trying to install lesstif for use with XGraph on a Mac G5 OSX 10.28, but using:
./configure --x-includes=/usr/X11R6/include --x-libraries=/usr/X11R6/lib
gives
configure: error: You must have X11 Revision 5 or higher to compile Lesstif
Your configure line looks ok and works on my system (Mac OS X 10.2.8
and XDarwin 1.1.1.1 (based on XFree86 4.2.1.1). It sounds like you only
installed the base X11 package and did not also install the X11 SDK
(X11SDK.dmg) which has the include files you will need to compile
lesstif. Now that version 1.0 of Apple's X11 is out, I don't know a
public location where you can get X11SDK.dmg for beta 3. If you can't
find the SDK, you could go to OS X 10.3 which has Apple's X11 version 1.0,
or you could use an alternate source for the X libraries and include files
(fink (http://fink.sourceforge.net) or XDarwin (http:/www.xdarwin.org)).
I checked my X11 version (X11 Beta 3 - XFree86 4.2.1) for Darwin. I did not see Revision 6 for the Mac available. For Xgraph, it says I need my LD_LIBRARY_PATH to reference Lesstif/lib or Motif/lib. Any suggestions on how to do this on OS X? Thanks
The version number in the configure error message refers to the version number on X (version 11 release 5 or higher); Apple's X11 and XFree86 are both compatible with that version of X.
On Mac OS X you probably will not have to set DYLD_LIBRARY_PATH (the rough equivalent of LD_LIBRARY_PATH; it is described on the dyld (1) man page) because, unless you change how lesstif is compiled, the path to the library is included in the library itself and that path will be used at runtime to load the library.
