Chocolate Chip Toffee Bars 2 1/3 cups flour 2/3 cup firmly packed brown sugar ¾ cup (1½ sticks) butter or margarine, room temperature 1 egg, slightly beaten 1 package (12 ounces) semi-sweet chocolate chips
(divided) 1 cup coarsely chopped nuts 1 can (14 ounces) sweetened condensed milk 1 package (10 ounces) toffee bits (divided) (see note) Preheat oven to 350 degrees. In bowl, stir together flour and brown sugar. Cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Add egg and mix well. Stir in 1½ cups of the chocolate chips and the nuts. Reserve 1½ cups of this mixture. Press remaining crumb mixture into bottom of 13-by-9-inch pan. Bake 10 minutes in preheated oven. Pour sweetened condensed milk evenly over crust, then top with 1½ cups of the toffee bits. Sprinkle reserved crumb mixture and remaining ½ cup chocolate chips over top. Return to oven and bake 25 minutes or until golden brown. Sprinkle with remaining ¼ cup toffee bits. Cool, then cut into bars. Makes about 36. Note: If an 8-ounce bag of toffee bits is all that is available, use only 1¼ cups with the condensed milk and the remaining scant ¼ cup on top. ------------------------ Yahoo!
