Postings to this list arrive in my inbox From: the original poster. This one,
for example, is From: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

It was recently brought to my attention by another list subscriber that my
postings were being flagged by SPF as likely forged. The list postings come
from lists.letterrip.com and that's not a server authorized by my SPF entry to
send mail for MDCCLXXVI.com. If this list was configured such that each post
came From: [email protected], there would probably be no
problem with my postings getting through to the SPF 'protected' destination.
(Assuming that letterrip.com had SPF entries).

I had added an SPF entry to my DNS on the theory that it might prevent my mail
from being rejected at various places. Instead, it had just the opposite
effect.

My guess is that, if a domain HAS an SPF entry, then some servers will flag
mail from non-'authorized' servers (such as lists.letterrip.com) as fraudulent.

However, in the ABSENCE of SPF entries for a given domain, the mail will not be
flagged as fraudulent.

Until such time as mail servers at important destinations start rejecting mail
because of a lack of SPF entries for the sending domain, it would appear that
we are better off *without* SPF entries than with.

Discuss.
