Well, I just got off of the phone for the second time with my ISP. As noted before, they changed mail servers Saturday morning with new enhancements. This required for me to change the SMTP server and turn on authentication. They also reset my password.
I made these changes to my email accounts in Entourage, and was able to send using both my ISP issued email account and my accounts for my own domain names. I then made the same changes to LRP 4.0.7 by changing the outgoing SMPT server to smtpauth.centurytel.net, enabling authentication, and entering my ISP account and new password. Server account is [EMAIL PROTECTED], which is what shows up in the error shown below. However when LRP receives a message and goes to send a response (whether it is a "not allowed to post" message, distributing the message to the list members, or whatever) I get the following. 05/03 21:50:11 [119] - smtp send: looking up domain: smtpauth.centurytel.net, file: Outgoing.9 05/03 21:50:12 [119] - smtp send: opening connection: smtpauth.centurytel.net 05/03 21:50:15 [119] - smtp send: ERROR!! SMTP error, LetterRip sent:"AUTH" .... server responded:"500 5.5.1 Command unrecognized: "EHLOncmugohio.org"" I explained the problem to the tech support people again at CernturyTel. Explaining a mailing list application is somewhat difficult to someone who doen't understand what I'm trying to explain. This is the second person, and neither really understood the problem. They could walk me through the changes in Entourage (which surprised me!) but I already had that working. They didn't list LRP (which didn't surprise me) and said that because I could send with one email application and not with another, then it was not a problem at their end. I asked if any of the "enhancements" involved spam filters or bulk mailings, and whether there was something that might recognize that I was sending to multiple recipients, and he said no. That there are many people sending multiple recipient messages from their email application with no problem. I asked about using the LRP built in SMTP server, and he said that that wouldn't work, because they block relayed mail (which is why I changed over to their SMTP server several years ago anyway.) It worked Friday, but hasn't worked since. CenturyTel can't help, and they're the ones who've made changes. These are not big lists, but I'm getting complaints already. I don't know what to try next. I'm about ready to copy the list over to Entourage and send group mail there using rules, but then I'd be inundated with the spam that LPR keeps out. Any new thoughts?
