Well, a very productive weekend here...
I finally migrated EIMS from my OS 9 machine to the OS X box running
LetterRip (farewell, OS 9!), and set mail to filter through EIMS
before moving on to LetterRip, which should alleviate SOME of the
problem thanks to greylisting and EIMS' excellent SMTP Host List.
But for the even longer term, my Wish List for LetterRip:
1) Allow us to turn off echoing of the original message in responses
or
2) Reduce the echo to ~3 lines of the message, to remove most of the
potential spam
3) Allow us to turn off the "-on" and "-off" addresses...that's where
the spam is coming in. I put a filter on EIMS to "refuse" such
messages, and in 18 hours, that filter has been triggered over 200
times already. And my lists are NOT that busy. I'd rather just not
use those addresses.
4) (Obviated by EIMS) Add "connecting IP" to the "Mail Rejection
Strings" options to contain addresses from connecting servers, so
it's easier to block spammers IPs when they start pummeling the server.
All I can think of right now...
Cheers,
spud.
