Yes, FSF binutils are unsuitable on x86_64, because they can't link 
anything against glibc-2.6 that may be present on the _host_ (they don't 
recognize the file format) - i.e., there is currently a 
bootstrappability problem from very new hosts. At least, it has to be 
documented.
