I can't find a release announcement anywhere, and trawling through 26 months of ChangeLog entries for gas, ld et al doesn't seem like much fun. The last thing I heard about binutils development was 'gold' (see http://lwn.net/Articles/274859/) but I don't know whether that's been merged and/or made the default linker in this release.
