I just started investigating how easy it would be to disable, but this
appears to have grown a non-optional build dependency on some things from
netpbm.
/bin/sh: xpmtoppm: command not found
/bin/sh: pnmdepth: command not found
/bin/sh: line 1: pnmtops: command not found
That wouldn't be the best outcome in Chapter 6 where you don't want to
introduce that heavy of a dependency.
