No, actually it won't. :-)
GRUB2 will handle finding the kernel itself, if the kernel is on LVM or
(maybe?) some types of RAID. So you don't need a separate /boot partition
in those cases anymore. But GRUB2 can't mount your root FS (neither can
any other bootloader), and this is what you need the initramfs for in any
case.
There's a hint somewhere now. :-)
