 GCC 4.5.0 now uses zlib in its build. It ships with a copy of zlib that it
 will build and use even if you have zlib installed in the system as is
 done in chapter 6. One can avoid compiling zlib again and use the system's
 zlib by passing --with-system-zlib to gcc's configure line.
