You should probably more ask on lfs-user list.
You give no clue what your host is, which LFS version you try (should be
6.1 from gcc-3.4.3 version).
Can't you try a more recent version?
You should try the last stable. Since a few LFS version (maybe 6.3 or
6.4), the first stage is cross-compiled, and this work better on some
hosts.
