Well, at college they use UML (User-Mode Linux, if someone is wondering)
to teach how an OS works, because it's much easier to test/debug it than
rebooting the machine to see the kernel booting. Also AFAIK UML can be
used to create virtual servers (something like Xen? Not sure).
