Looks like you don't have the /tools symlink, or $LFS/tools isn't owned by the LFS user. What is the output of "ls -l /"?

Actually, just do "ls -ld /tools" and paste the output here. Also, is what you said about the install process trying to create "/roots" accurate, or was that a typo?
