This is a very intresting project, even though there is nothing real yet. you could use an krb5/afs environment, but authentication is a major problem, since you would need a cross side authentication mechanism, which is provided by krb5, but not (yet?) possible with any network file system I know. With AFS you could also handle execution of binarys of different systems.
