My usage is perhaps not very standard: I wanted to install LFS on a remote box and I was having doubts about the sanity of the toolchain in the host system. So I downloaded the iso image, mounted via loop device, chrooted into it and then proceeded to install as per the book. In other words, the host system only provided the kernel. Just one chrooting more, that's all. All went well after that. I never burned a CD with the iso, so I can't give any more feedback. For emergencies where booting from a CD is needed, a keep a KNOPPIX around, since I'm a KDE person. Anyway, the iso image was sure usefull for what I needed.
