I have struggled with inaccurate, poorly-edited, confusing, ambiguous technical documentation at my place of employment (a U.S. Government agency) for nearly 20 years. And the creation of all this stinking, lousy documentation has cost the US taxpayers untold *MILLIONS* of dollars.
Today I finished creating a bootable system (hooray, it works!) using "Linux From Scratch", Version 6.3. This book is an absolutely incredible human achievement. I have *NEVER* seen a book as dead-on accurate in my entire life. Everything works exactly, precisely as stated. There are NO MISTAKES. There are NO TYPOGRAPHICAL ERRORS. All information appears in the correct order. I only had to ask ONE question on the "lfs-support" mailing list during the entire process. My question was answered by several helpful volunteers in less than 24 hours. And, of course, the simple answer turned out to be that I had not been paying close enough attention to detail :-) It completely amazes me that such a powerful and enjoyable educational tool is freely available as open source and that it is entirely maintained by volunteers. All the people involved in this project deserve a debt of gratitude. Keep up the fantastic work!
