I looked into this when I was choosing the parts to build my computer.
(Got my entire computer 3D ready everything except the monitor.
Couldn't find one I liked.) Personally, I liked the passive 3D
technology, but at this point, I think I'll wait until the 3D
projectors come down to a more affordable price range rather than
buying a monitor with 3D capabilities. With the active technology,
most of the monitors I saw listed used 120Hz because it was the
minimum that gave a somewhat decent picture. Higher speeds would be
more pricey. Am not sure how well they'd work with the glasses either
since with the active techologies, it's the glasses that are showing
and hiding the pictures and their rates won't change. There are
mentions on the web of users looking into 240 Hz monitors for 3D use
with active technologies (

There are some other technologies that might be worth looking into. I
saw a really interesting stereoscopic solution (similar to the
viewmaster or stereoscopic viewers) that uses two monitors. There are
also some technologies that require no glasses.

One forum I ran across that looked like it had good information on 3D was:

http://www.mtbs3d.com/phpbb/viewforum.php?f=116

I also found this a useful site since it had some Linux specific
information along with other options:

Another 3D related link:

If there was one technology that worked well for everyone, I think it
would be dominating the market by now. The better technologies (the
ones that might not need glasses, etc.) are expensive. The more
inexpensive technologies, only work for part of the population. They
can cause eye strain or seizures in some people.

Sincerely,
Laura
