I would think having ed around would be enough.  Vim is kinda large
compared to the actual ex-vi package but I haven't done any actual
comparisons between that and vim built with the minimal feature set.

I could actually be be convinced to support a push for ex-vi to replace
vim in LFS but I'm not gonna go there! ;)  Still, just sed is a little
extreme IMO for an emergency editor.
