Hy. Recently I have completed my very own
AMD64 biarch lfs system based on lfs-6.1.
I have started stumbling on problems after
beginning to compile gnome. As it turns out
one must pass -fPIC to all libraries during make,
or it won't be possible to create some
shared objects.

I have a few questions about this:
        1) why is this necesary? why is it that the
         normal build process fails?
        2) is there a way to know whether a library
           is position independent?

Thanks,
Mihai
