Sorry, for confusion, but I mean book titled i386/x64_64 not
standalone x86_64 (which I notice is *broken* :))
You mean this one?

If so, the title for that one is 'Intel/AMD x86' and it's assumed that
you're building 32-bit everything.
O-o-ops. Seems I need better eyes :). I had read this a lot, but
thought it was 'Intel x86/AMD x86_64'. Thus I desided this part of
book is for single-lib build no matter 32- or 64-bit.
Scripts are good, but they are evil :), as I want *understand* what I
do first, and later automate it. It's not so easily with them, as they
contain a lot of stuff for other archs.
I understand. ;) Unfortunately, I'm not sure if LFS has any plans yet to
support 64-bit archs that build *just* 64-bit. As you've noticed, gcc
likes to assume lib64 if it's building 64-bit and causes all sorts of
headaches.
However, till enter-chroot fase this is *only* problem.
I'll continue to build and see if it is really the only problem.
Moreover when I'll build multi-lib system, I try to follow lsb
proposal for multi-arch builds [1], concrete: Option B, as seems lfs
do not use package manager and Option C is impractical.
