Yes, of course, this is already partially implemented for the Live CD
(LANG -> FONT mapping is done). The LANG -> KEYMAP mapping can be
obtained from Debian installer.
However, I don't think it is really needed for LFS 6.x book. Reason: the
book already spells out the assumption that the reader knows the correct
parameters for loadkeys and setfont, and there is no plan to support
languages needing more than loadkeys + setfont + LANG in LFS 6.x timeframe.
BTW the assumption above is in fact incorrect, because in some distros
the user just clicks through the dialogs to configure his regional
settings without understanding that these dialogs set LANG and
parameters for loadkeys and setfont. But I think that such "dumb" users
are out of our control and out of the book audience. If you know any way
to improve the situation, please share your opinion.
One more question: for mounting Windows-related filesystems (VFAT,
ISO9660+JOULIET, NTFS, SMBFS) non-English users have to compile NLS
modules for the kernel and either modify the "default NLS" option in the
kernel config or add options to the mount command or fstab, e.g.:
mount -t iocharset=koi8-r /dev/cdrom /media/cdrom
Sould this be mentioned in the book? Where?
